THERAPY APPROACH & SERVICES

My Approach

While I pick up ideas and techniques from my own clinical experiences, readings and trainings, I have a number of therapeutic modalities that I utilize in my own counselling sessions. Rather than using only one approach in a session, I often dance from one modality to another throughout a session and draw on a treatment approach that I think would be helpful. Here is a list of some of the therapy models I use most often in my practice:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
  • Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT)
  • Strength Based Approach
  • Mindfulness
  • Motivational Interviewing
  • Narrative Therapy
  • The Gottman Approach (for couples work)
  • EMDR

Individual Therapy

My area of specialization includes working with adolescents/young adults experiencing anxiety/low mood, adults experiencing relational distress/separation and as well as supporting adults with chronic illness, chronic pain and physical disability.

I believe that therapy is a collaborative and self discovery process between the client and therapist; we go at your own pace and start where you are. My role is to ask thought-provoking questions in order to help increase your understanding of a situation and explore your emotions, core beliefs, thinking patterns and develop healthier coping strategies.  I use a strength based approach to help you create more of a compassionate narrative and let go of the kinds of beliefs that you have come to accept as the truth. The first session will consist of an assessment to learn about you and the established goals set out for therapy. Follow up appointments will then be recommended on a weekly or bi-weekly basis and will become less frequent once you feel you are more on track.

Group Work

I offer Stress Reduction and Relaxation groups in learning practical strategies around handling and coping with stress. Typically, these groups are 6 weeks in length, are capped to six participants and are 1.5 hours in length. Each session begins with a brief meditation exercise, followed by an interactive conversation about stress.

Stay tuned for future dates!
